Thought I'd start a thread to introduce ourselves, I'll start:
I live in Vancouver, and of course favourite team is the Canucks. This is actually my first year in keeper leagues and this is my 2nd league (just finished drafting in a 24 team 40 round one, so got to get into a ton of deep prospect research which was a lot of fun) This league looks like quite the different animal with FA signings, so definitely looking forward to that with a different spin on things. Been a hockey nut for the past two decades, organizing office pools for the past 10 years and previously been doing the standard roto/h2h stuff on yahoo for about 7 years (can't see going back to that though now into keeper leagues - a lot more fun with these). I also have two young kids (3 and 4) who keep me very busy - so fantasy hockey is definitely a nice escape for me to when I can sneak some time away. Other favorite sports are tennis and squash - love the aspect of 1-on-1 competition and the challenges you face with no one to help you out but yourself. I'm a systems analyst by trade, so naturally like to look at and purge through a ton of stats to come up with the best strategy to succeed in fantasy hockey.

Hey there! My name is Bear and I'm from Victoria which is just a ferry ride away from the GM above me. I've been doing these kinds of things off and on for a while now and I love 'em more than I love a lot of things. I'm a total geek when it comes to hockey. I don't play it considering how damn clumsy I am but I love to watch it and tend to watch as much as I can with a little bias towards my Canucks. I still go to high school so I guess you can call me a young'n but I will be graduating this year and getting the heck away from it. I'm pretty easygoing and approachable but enthusiastic is probably the best word to describe me which is why you'll almost always find me here whenever I can be. Gaming is a big part of me as well but I tend to stick to the sports games and the shooters as a big history buff. And while I can't stand math, I do love to research and you'll usually find me digging into stats or prospects when I've got some free time. Other than that? I'm pumped to get started and hopefully even make some friends the process if I can. Never hesistate to shoot me up a message whenever you wanna talk whether it be about life or trades. So yeah, glad to be here.

Hey all!
I live in Sweden (am i the only one from Europe here?). Currently living in a town called Växjö placed in southern Sweden. The whole fantasy thing is just not very big over here and the reason i started doing it was because of a couple of online friends (who also lives in Sweden). We are playing in one year leagues on ESPN hockey during the winter and baseball during the summer. We are basically sitting in an IRC channel talking shit and following games and the players that we own, bashing each others teams etc. Lots of fun. This is actually my first keeper league in hockey, but i am playing in a couple of baseball dynasty leagues. It's really gonna be a new challenge with a salary cap but I'm really looking forward to it. It's a little more strategy involved.
I have basically been following hockey my whole life, never player myself though. My favorite team here in Sweden are called Luleå and in the NHL i support the Devils. The biggest reason for that i have to say is Martin Brodeur and i also love defense (lol i am weird i know). So i got attached to them when they were "ruining" the game of hockey with the trap. Others sports i enjoy is soccer and baseball.
If my English is weird sometimes I'm blaming it on that it's not my native language lol. Have a good one folks, and looking forward to many years with lots of fun!

Qirren: You might be the only one from Europe but I'd happily trade places with you if I could. I've traveled a little here and there but I've never made to the right side of the world yet which I'm not all that proud of. How much NHL hockey is actually televised down there or do you go the Center Ice route? You're not the only one who likes a good defense and trap game though. Canucks have always been a little too aggressive to play that game but they can get the cycle going when they want to. How do ya feel about bringing Schneider in for this coming season? I have always liked the kid but understood why he had to go. Should make for a pretty damn tandem between the pipes with him and Brodeur sharing the load. Don't worry about your English though cause considering you come from Sweden, you really aren't doing all that bad.
Boardstreet: Congratulations on the kid! I love children myself and one day I plan on doing the same. South Jersey would be nice just for the beaches along though us here Vancouver Island have some pretty good ones here and there as well when you consider we live right on the Western coast. Though I'm sure the weather is a heck of a lot better there than it is here. And I always love hearing about long time fans with a lot of them seeming to come out of places like Philly and Toronto and the like. I can't imagine how it would be being a stay at home dad but I'm sure you have quite a bit of fun. What did you do before, if you don't mind me asking?
Jets GM: Atlanta fan as in the Thrashers? They were my East team for the longest time and I remember all the stupid looks I'd get from people back home when I'd tell them that. You tend to see a lot of Canucks jerseys down here and then it gets to be a bit of a crackpot but southern teams like the Panthers or Hurricanes don't see much representation. I still follow the Jets a little too and I'll be interested in seeing how you do with them considering the young core you've got. And I'll keep cheering them on down here once the season starts, but probably a little quieter considering them and the Canucks share a conference now. Those should be some good games they have.
Oilerz: Sounds good man. How is it being a janitor? I love kids so I probably wouldn't mind it and I imagine it would be better than working at a high school. A lifetime suspension? That sucks. What did you do? It'll be interesting to see how do you here though cause I'm sure that experience won't hurt when it comes to strategizing and all that. Congrats on the marriage too! That's a long time and you see less and less of that nowadays. She a hockey fan too? You're lucky you get to manage your favorite team and I'm sure that'll help a little too. Just gotta build on that young core of theirs.

The tv coverage is pretty good actually since hockey is the next most popular sport here after soccer. Usually there is four games every night, two 7pm games and two 10pm games unless there is some early starts on the weekends like 1pm, then there is even more games televised. But I usually like to buy the center ice package online so I can decide myself which games I wanna watch.
I love the move to acquire Schneider. I mean you acquire a proven (kind of) great goalie who is hopefully gonna take over after Brodeur, and for all of that we just had to give up a pick. I always love moves that acquire proven talent vs unproven talent.

The summer time kills Me now, since I have issues breathing, way too humid.

Hey guys! Great thread here. Well i'm the Leafs GM, the organizer of all this, and it's going to get pretty hectic around here so I could use all the help I can get! Haha, I've been in Fantrax and ProBoards leagues for the past 2 years now and it's been great having an alternative reason to watch hockey! I started this in the hopes that I could get a lot of Active GM's and make a great league (Plus I really wanted to be the Leafs...) and it seems like I've done that! Can't wait to kick things off with everyone.

Hey all, I'm from Victoria, father of a wicked little toddler, and lifetime Habs fan. Been into fantasy hockey for a decade or so, and keeper leagues for the last 3 years. This is my first salary cap league, figuring that was the next logical challenge. Really excited about the setup of this league, looking forward to getting to know everyone! Good luck to everyone, hope you all enjoy battling it out for second place!!

Qirren: Nice. It's easy to forget how widespread the whole NHL thing is. It really ain't all that much worse than what I've got with basic cable here in Canada. But like you I always enjoy going all in and buying the Center Ice packages. It'll always depend on the money situation at the time but I like to have every game at my fingertips especially when you so rarely get to see the Southeners down here. You hit the nail on the head with the Schneider deal though. There's nothing saying that the Canucks won't benefit in the long run but the Devil's benefit will be coming a hell of a lot sooner and is a lot more reliable. One of 'em (Luongo and Schneider) was gonna have to go though and I'm just glad all the stupid controversy angle is over with.
Spokestick: Another Victorian in the ranks? Shit. It's a nice place and all but it ain't all that represented on the internet. Maybe we've even seen eachother somewhere? You never know man. Congrats (and good luck) with the toddler which can't be easy but must also be a hell of a lotta fun as well. I always like having fellow GMs who know their stuff and it looks like you do. If you've done keeper leagues all this jazz shouldn't be too much of a problem once you get used to it. And I would enjoy battling for second but last time I checked? I won't need to.
Boardstreet: Woah! I apologize for and I'm sure you are one tough son of a gun. I've had to go through medical hell my whole live so I can relate but I've never had anything as serious as lymphoma. I'm not a huge fan of the summer either mostly because I just don't like being hot. My body overheats so easily and last time I checked it's a hell of a lot easier to warm up than it is to cool down. I don't know much about logistics but I'm sure you're more intelligent than most of us here. Or at least me for that matter. I do play a little EHM now and then too. Just signed up for another league that's still in the process of coming together. It's a pretty cool system but a whole other ball game when compared to keeper leagues. Not sure which one I prefer to be honest with ya.
Bruins: I can't say much about PEI considering I don't have any family that far out East but from what I have seen it looks pretty beautiful. I do live on an island myself though so I can sorta relate. Of course my island is on the whole other side of the country compared to yours. Why the Ducks if you don't mind me asking? Not that I don't like 'em cause once upon they were actually my team. I even had a Ducks jersey with Bertuzzi's name on the back of it. Those were the days. That would have been the ultimate birthday present though. Who needs money or presents when you can see your favorite team win Lord Stanley?
Avs: Ah yes, the Nordiques of old. If there's any team I'd like to see make its way back to the NHL it's definitely them and it's looking like that dream may actually come true one of these days. It must have been weird having to switch fanbases like that but a love of hockey is a love of hockey. Like I said to Spokestick I love to have GMs who know their stuff and while I wasn't exactly old enough to have done much in the pencil and paper age? It's good to know there are some here who have. Your experience is gonna be warmly accepted here except when you're beating all our asses back where we came from. Your job sounds pretty cool. I mean it isn't anything special but I'm a tech junkie myself and I would love to be able to work around it all day. Though I'm sure the pressure and all the other stuff not so great stuff I'm sure comes with it wouldn't exactly be as great. Sure you get some pretty boneheaded customers/calls don't ya?
